<p class="p1">While in college at LSU, <a href="https://htmsports.com/blog/">Devin Snow’s</a> Monday crockpot stand-by called for Camellia red beans simmered with Manda smoked sausage, a couple of onions, and a ham hock. Though he still loves red beans &amp; rice, he says, “I don’t cook anything anymore. I’m just eating everyone else’s food. And I’m completely content with that.”</p>
<p class="p1">With his signature <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@snowlikejon">“RB&amp;R”</a> Days, Devin is making a name for himself as a food influencer. And he’s building a pretty large social media following for what he calls an “underdog dish”.</p>
<p class="p1">“Nobody respected going out to eat for red beans. Everybody was like, I can just make them at home.”</p>
<p class="p1">But after seeking out and eating red beans &amp; rice at a wide range of interesting and quirky takeout places, corner stores, and hot plate lunch spots, Devin is on a roll – recently reaching RB&amp;R Day #160.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<h4 class="p1">How It All Started</h4>
<p class="p1">A lover of comedy and stand-up, Devin started a blog in June of 2019 based on homegrown New Orleans humor. Six months later, he quit his job as a car salesman, cashed in his 401K, and never looked back. His first video foray involved Facebook Live shows five nights a week; then the pandemic hit, and because so many people were at home on their computers, he got some traction. Stumbling on the idea of doing RB&amp;R Days, Devin explains, “<span class="s2">It’s not like the first one blew up. But I told myself, if I do this 100 Mondays in a row, it’s gonna be a hit.”</span></p>
<h4><a href="https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3.png"><img decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-45302 size-blog-large-no-crop" src="https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-640x457.png" alt="Devin Snow eating red beans and rice outside a local restaurant" width="640" height="457" srcset="https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-640x457.png 640w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-300x214.png 300w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-560x400.png 560w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-768x549.png 768w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-1440x1029.png 1440w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-1512x1080.png 1512w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-1536x1097.png 1536w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-2048x1463.png 2048w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-900x643.png 900w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-350x250.png 350w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-190x136.png 190w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-165x118.png 165w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-150x107.png 150w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Camellia-Photo-3-1200x857.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></h4>
<h4 class="p4">RB&amp;R Days: One Monday at a Time</h4>
<p class="p4"><span class="s3">When asked how he picks the red beans &amp; rice spots that he’ll visit, Devin claims, “I don’t even think about it till Monday morning. </span>There’s no preparation whatsoever. Which makes it better and more authentic. I’ll go look at my followers’ messages or comments and whatever sounds the most interesting is where I’ll go. Nobody knows I’m coming, and I don’t want anybody to know I’m there.”</p>
<p class="p4">Devin doesn’t play favorites, either. He says it’s all about his genuine reaction to the experience and his own opinion. He explains it this way: “I’m not going to rank them; it’s unnecessary. That would just open up an argument. But some of the best places are the ones with the best experiences.”</p>
<p class="p4">He cites <a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheQueenzCuisine/">Queen’s Cuisine</a> in Kenner, LA as a great example:</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">
<p dir="ltr" lang="en">RB&amp;R Day 106<br />
Greatest Queen in the <a href="https://t.co/DMiCjCgljL">pic.twitter.com/DMiCjCgljL</a></p>
<p>— Hold The Mayo (@snowlikejonn) <a href="https://twitter.com/snowlikejonn/status/1528838237820702722?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 23, 2022</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p class="p6"><span class="s5">On his blog, Devin says, “</span><span class="s6">First person you gonna see is the person who owns the place, Queen. Lol, wow what a vibe. Within seconds it feels like you’ve known her for years. Instant conversation and there is zero, I mean nothing not to like about this sweet woman.” </span></p>
<p class="p1">Another noteworthy spot Devin appreciates is a bowling alley that packs folks in at lunchtime on Mondays for their red beans &amp; rice. “Nothing but people over 70 years old – that was an experience,” he deadpans.</p>
<p class="p1">And then there are the inexpensive joints, where he’s indulged in huge plates of food for as little as $6-$8 per takeout container. “A lot of places are beat-up looking and don’t strike the eye as beautiful – those are beautiful to me.”</p>
<p class="p1">Finally, there are the places like <a href="https://www.camelliabrand.com/fradys-one-stop-a-neighborhood-gem/"><span class="s7">Frady’s</span></a> in the Bywater, where Devin does a little eating and a lot of neighborhood exploring:</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<h4 class="p1">What’s Next for Devin Snow</h4>
<p class="p7"><span class="s8">Devin now sells his own <a href="https://htmsports.com/shop/"><span class="s7">branded t-shirts and hats</span></a> (a hugely successful side gig) and has racked up sponsors such as Camellia Beans, Abita, and Blue Plate Mayo. When asked what’s next, he says, “</span><span class="s9">I’m 30 and will have to throw my ass up on a stage and do stand up at some point. It’s something that I know I’ll be able to do. Right now, I’m cool with what I’m doing.”<br />

<p class="p1">Sharing tips and tricks for her favorite New Orleans dishes from her custom pink wheelchair, <a href="https://theoriginalneworleanssnackbox.com/">Amelia Labeaud</a> is a fun-loving New Orleans native raised in the 7th ward who has always had a passion for her city&#8217;s food and culture.</p>
<p class="p1">Not long ago, her <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@rollingwithmelia/video/7147888309589511470?is_copy_url=1&amp;is_from_webapp=v1">viral video</a> for<span class="s1"> red beans and rice</span> &#8212; made with <span class="s1">pickled pig tips and <a href="/products/red-bean-flavor-infusion/">Camellia Brand Red Bean Flavor Infusion</a> &#8212; got people talking. &#8220;What are pickled pig tips and where do you get them?&#8221; commenters asked. </span></p>
<h4>Pickled Tips</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-44805 size-blog-large-no-crop" src="https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-640x469.jpg" alt="Popular in the South and especially among Louisiana cooks, pig tips are the meaty chunks from the underside of spare ribs that contain cartilage but no bone." width="640" height="469" srcset="https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-640x469.jpg 640w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-300x220.jpg 300w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-546x400.jpg 546w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-768x563.jpg 768w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-1440x1056.jpg 1440w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-1473x1080.jpg 1473w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-1536x1126.jpg 1536w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-2048x1501.jpg 2048w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-900x660.jpg 900w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-350x257.jpg 350w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-190x139.jpg 190w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-165x121.jpg 165w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-150x110.jpg 150w, https://www.camelliabrand.com/static/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/pickled-pig-tips_02.16.23-1200x880.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></p>
<p class="p1">Popular in the South and especially among Louisiana cooks, pig tips are the meaty chunks from the underside of spare ribs that contain cartilage but no bone. When a rack is trimmed to make ribs, the boneless strip of meaty rib ends (or tips) remains. A form of <a href="https://www.camelliabrand.com/red-bean-essentials-pickled-pork/">pickled pork</a>, pickled tips are inexpensive and used as a flavoring agent in many iconic Southern dishes such as red, white and lima beans, including all manner of stewed vegetables. And you can buy them packaged at many grocery stores and butcher shops.</p>
<p class="p1">Amelia, (who goes by &#8216;Melia&#8217;) loves using pickled tips and cooking them low and slow in dishes from red beans to cabbage to greens. “I think they give a really good, buttery, salty taste. It gives the food really good flavor,” she says. Check out her recipe for <a href="https://www.camelliabrand.com/recipes/red-beans-with-pickled-pig-tips/">Red Beans with Pickled Pig Tips.</a></p>
<h4>An Adventure on TikTok</h4>
<p class="p1">Melia&#8217;s adventure on TikTok started a few years back, when her daughter pleaded, “Mom, let’s get on this TikTok trend called &#8216;things New Orleans people see&#8217;.&#8221; So for kicks, they created a New Orleans-themed video, and the next day, her daughter exclaimed, “Mom, it’s gone viral!”</p>
<p class="p1">“You know, kids get excited about every little thing, so I kind of brushed it off,” says Melia. But when she looked at how many people had reacted to her video, she was amazed. As she experimented with posts to see what grabbed folks’ attention, she noticed that fans were gravitating to her New Orleans-style cooking videos.</p>
<h4>How a Giveaway Turned Into a Business</h4>
<p class="p1">Melia continued to create cooking videos, and in hopes of reaching a few hundred thousand followers, she offered a giveaway &#8212; a box full of iconic New Orleans snacks that she grew up enjoying, filled with products like Mama Noodles, Big Shot Cold Drinks, Elmer’s CheeWees, and Zapp’s Chips.</p>
<p class="p1">Fans were clamoring for the goods, which is how her giveaway turned into a flourishing business called <a href="https://theoriginalneworleanssnackbox.com/collections/snack-box">The Original New Orleans Snack Box</a>.
