The Feijao & Green Beans Parade: Inspired by Cajun and Brazilian Cultures

The Krewe of Feijao & Green Beans is another colorful off-shoot of the Red Beans and Dead Beans parades, and it debuted back in 2020.

The Krewe of Feijao & Green Beans is another colorful off-shoot of the Red Beans and Dead Beans parades, and it debuted back in 2020. Inspired by Cajun and Brazilian culture, this second-line style walking parade starts at Bud Rips Bar at Piety and Burgundy streets and meanders through the Bywater, eventually meeting up with the Red Beans parade at the Marigny Opera House.

Featuring both a samba-style marching band and a Cajun band, the parade celebrates the diversity of different cultures in the Crescent City. The relatively new 70-member krewe is named for the Portuguese word for beans, and their costumes show off intricate designs made with dried beans and rice.

On Monday, February 12th, the 2024 Feijao & Green Beans Parade kicks off at 2 PM at Bud Rips Bar at 900 Piety Street.
